This transition illustrates a significant industry shift, with Galaxy’s diversification into AI impacting market dynamics and echoing previous crypto-to-AI pivots.

Galaxy Digital, led by CEO Mike Novogratz, closes a $1.4 billion financing facility to retrofit its Helios data center in Texas, supporting AI operations primarily for CoreWeave.

The financing signals a pivotal shift from Bitcoin mining to AI, expecting $1 billion annually from CoreWeave’s lease, impacting Galaxy’s crypto exposure.

$1.4 Billion Fund Enables AI Shift at Helios

Galaxy Digital has secured a $1.4 billion debt facility to transform its Helios data center from BTC mining to AI. CoreWeave, now the primary lease holder, has taken up 800 MW of compute capacity.

The 15-year lease agreement with CoreWeave marks the largest crypto-to-AI shift. Mike Novogratz, Galaxy’s CEO, oversees these adaptations, with aims to generate $1 billion annually.

Galaxy Faces Mining Loss but Gains AI Revenue

The transition to AI reduces Galaxy’s Bitcoin mining exposure, causing immediate shifts in its infrastructure focus. CoreWeave’s lease alone projects $1 billion yearly revenue for Galaxy.

Market responses include Galaxy’s share price dropping by 5.3%. The broader impact allocates Helios capacity towards AI, potentially influencing future network dynamics.

Mike Novogratz, Founder & CEO, Galaxy Digital, stated, “With these additional agreements, CoreWeave has now committed to the full 800 MW of approved power capacity at the Helios datacenter campus. Galaxy anticipates generating average annual revenue of more than $1 billion over the 15-year term…”

Sector Adaptability Inspires Galaxy’s Strategic Pivot

Previous pivots, such as TeraWulf’s, highlight the industry’s adaptability. Decreased crypto margins push firms toward AI, showcasing past strategic shifts.

Expectations are for diversified revenue streams, with historical precedents suggesting potential long-term gains in diversified tech infrastructures. Galaxy’s move underscores a shift towards sustainable tech operations.
