At the end of January, Binance reported non-customer balances amounting to 2,746 Bitcoin (BTC), 275.7 million Tether (USDT), 174 Ether (ETH), 4.87 million Binance Coin (BNB), and 4,179 Solana (SOL), according to data collected from Protos.
These figures represent a significant decline from December 2024, when Binance reserves included 46,896 BTC, 2.99 billion USDT, 216,312 ETH, 5.84 million BNB, and 442,234 SOL. The decline has brought Binance’s corporate holdings to near two-year lows, with the lost value exceeding $8 billion based on current prices.
The reason for the reduction remains unclear. Analysts speculate that potential regulatory settlements or legal obligations, such as FTX clawbacks, could have played a role. Others suggest Binance might be reallocating funds for investment purposes or business expansion.
Despite the reduction in corporate reserves, Binance asserts that it maintains 100% of customer assets across 34 monitored cryptocurrencies. The exchange’s proof-of-reserves, verified through Merkle root hash methodology, confirms that user funds remain fully backed at a 1:1 ratio or greater. Binance also continues to hold a substantial overall portfolio, reportedly worth $160 billion.
