Google reveals 90% AI adoption in coding, but 46% distrust reliability. Developer skepticism remains high.

What to Know:
  • Google DORA report shows 90% AI adoption among developers.
  • 46% of developers distrust AI’s reliability.
  • AI skepticism persists despite increased adoption rates.

Google’s DORA 2025 report reveals nearly universal AI adoption among software developers, yet skepticism about AI’s reliability and accuracy remains prevalent, indicating ongoing concerns within the industry.

As AI tool usage surges, the lack of trust underscores challenges in integration, highlighting the imperative for rigorous verification processes in software development to ensure reliability and accuracy.

Ninety percent of developers now use AI, according to Google’s 2025 DORA report, yet skepticism about AI’s reliability is on the rise.

The surge in AI use doesn’t equate to trust; developers express concerns over AI’s accuracy and reliability, affecting deployment decisions.

Google Reports 90% AI Adoption by Developers

Google’s DORA report highlights a 90% adoption rate of AI among software developers, reflecting a significant increase from previous years. Despite this growth, trust in AI’s reliability has diminished. Official Google Blog states, “Our 2025 research makes it clear that AI is no longer a novelty, but a near-universal part of a developer’s toolkit … This year’s report reveals a significant finding: AI adoption among software development professionals has surged to 90%, marking a 14% increase from last year…”

Involved entities include Google Cloud’s DORA team and Developer Advocate Nathen Harvey. The focus is on AI integration in development tools, but reduced trust suggests challenges ahead.

Developers Distrust AI’s Reliability Despite Adoption

For developers, AI’s distrust rate exceeds its trustworthiness, with industry discussions centering around AI’s accuracy and reliability. The trend challenges tools’ credibility across software sectors. According to Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey, “84% of respondents are using or planning to use AI tools in their development process… More developers actively distrust the accuracy of AI tools (46%) than trust it (33%)…”

Financially, no direct crypto impacts are noted, but widespread adoption could enhance software productivity—balanced by ongoing skepticism and demand for human verification.

AI Trust Declines Following 76% 2024 Adoption Rate

This trend follows previous increases, such as 76% in 2024. Trust in AI has fallen from its peak, complicating an otherwise enthusiastic adoption wave. Nathen Harvey, Lead Researcher, Google Cloud, noted, “Boardroom-level prioritization shows that this change is likely here to stay. Every organization is facing pressure to improve software performance even in the face of broad economic pressures and constraints. On an individual level, A.I. has captured the human imagination and inspired developers to find ways to drive both top and bottom-line improvements for businesses.”

Expert analysis suggests that human oversight in critical tasks remains paramount, driven by historical trends showing slow trust growth despite increasing AI capabilities.
