Grayscale’s Zcash ETF has crossed the $1 billion asset threshold, a milestone that Managing Director Krista Lynch says marks the opening of a new era for cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds and signals growing institutional appetite for privacy-focused digital assets.

Grayscale’s Zcash ETF has crossed the $1 billion asset threshold, a milestone that Managing Director Krista Lynch says marks the opening of a new era for cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds and signals growing institutional appetite for privacy-focused digital assets.

Zcash ETF Crosses the $1 Billion Mark

The Grayscale Zcash ETF, which debuted as the first U.S. privacy-coin ETF, has accumulated $1 billion in assets under management, according to statements attributed to Grayscale. The fund, trading under the ticker ZCSH, gives regulated market participants direct exposure to Zcash (ZEC), a proof-of-work cryptocurrency that employs zero-knowledge cryptography to enable shielded transactions.

Reaching $1 billion in AUM places the Zcash fund alongside a small cohort of single-asset crypto ETFs that have cleared that threshold since spot Bitcoin ETF approvals opened the regulatory door for broader crypto fund structures in the United States.

Lynch Frames a New Chapter for Crypto ETFs

Krista Lynch, Managing Director at Grayscale, described the milestone as evidence that the ETF market has entered a new phase, one where investor demand extends beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum into assets with more specialized use cases. Lynch’s framing positions the Zcash fund’s growth as a demand signal rather than a one-off product success.

The characterization is notable because Zcash occupies a different risk and regulatory profile than Bitcoin. Privacy coin ETFs faced a longer path to approval partly due to concerns about transaction opacity; the fund’s $1 billion milestone suggests that compliance frameworks have advanced enough to absorb that complexity. Grayscale has previously compared Bitcoin and Zcash mining profitability, underscoring its long-standing research focus on ZEC as a proof-of-work asset with Bitcoin-adjacent network mechanics.

What the Milestone Signals for Crypto Investors

A $1 billion fund in a single altcoin ETF is a data point, not a market trend in isolation. Zcash shares Bitcoin’s fixed-supply, proof-of-work architecture, which likely contributed to its regulatory acceptance and investor familiarity. The milestone is more accurately read as an indicator that ETF product proliferation is finding audiences beyond the Bitcoin-first cohort.

Other single-asset funds have followed a similar trajectory. Grayscale’s Chainlink ETF drew $41 million in inflows at debut, while the XRP ETF recorded 30 consecutive days of net inflows, illustrating that structured crypto exposure is attracting capital across multiple asset classes, not just Bitcoin.

From a Bitcoin-network perspective, the broader ETF expansion matters because it deepens the regulated infrastructure layer through which institutional capital enters digital assets. Funds that absorb demand for altcoins reduce direct on-chain selling pressure and add liquidity venues, dynamics that ultimately affect the relative capital flows Bitcoin competes for. The Zcash ETF’s $1 billion crossing, framed by Lynch as the start of a new era, is the latest evidence that the post-Bitcoin-ETF approval landscape is still expanding its perimeter. Zcash had already surged 48% above $800 on earlier Grayscale ETF speculation, suggesting markets had priced in institutional interest well before the asset milestone was confirmed.
