The two largest crypto ETF categories by assets, spot Bitcoin and spot Ether funds, each closed the Aug. 5 session with net creations, based on daily flow tracking for U.

U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded funds recorded net inflows on Aug. 5, while spot XRP ETFs moved in the opposite direction with net outflows, splitting investor demand across the three assets in a single trading session.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs both finished Aug. 5 with net positive flows.
  • Spot XRP ETFs diverged from the pair, ending the same session with net outflows.

The two largest crypto ETF categories by assets, spot Bitcoin and spot Ether funds, each closed the Aug. 5 session with net creations, based on daily flow tracking for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs. The positive prints kept both product groups on the inflow side of the ledger for the day. For related coverage, see Bitcoin ETF Inflows Hit 3-Week High as BTC Drops Below $64K.

The Bitcoin result extends a pattern of demand seen earlier in the week, when U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs drew net inflows led by BlackRock’s IBIT. Ether funds have also traded in and out of positive territory in recent sessions, having previously led weekly inflows while Bitcoin volume cooled.

XRP spot ETFs diverged with net outflows

XRP was the outlier on Aug. 5. While Bitcoin and Ether products attracted money, spot XRP ETFs recorded net outflows, the opposite direction from the two majors on the same day.

That divergence is the core of the story: the three assets did not move as a bloc. Positive flows for Bitcoin and Ether against redemptions for XRP point to asset-specific positioning rather than a single, uniform market signal, a split visible in XRP ETF flow data.

Cross-asset flow contrasts have surfaced before in the ETF market, including sessions where Bitcoin funds drew inflows as Ether products saw outflows. The Aug. 5 reading flips one leg of that dynamic, with XRP taking the outflow side instead.

What the split suggests for near-term demand

Net inflows generally reflect stronger day-of demand than net outflows, so the Aug. 5 figures suggest investors leaned toward Bitcoin and Ether exposure while trimming XRP exposure. The signal is narrow: it is one session’s snapshot, not a confirmed multi-day trend.

Fund flows track asset-specific appetite rather than a market-wide verdict, and a single day of XRP redemptions does not establish a sustained shift. Whether the divergence persists will depend on flow prints in the following sessions, which the daily Bitcoin ETF flow tables continue to track. Bitcoin ETF demand has swung sharply in prior stretches, including when July inflows ended a two-month slide.
