Who this guide is for: ETH holders who are thinking about restaking, people researching the EIGEN token, and developers who want to know what EigenDA and EigenCloud really are in late 2026.

What we tested (5 Nov 2026): We opened the EigenLayer app (app.eigenlayer.xyz), the EigenCloud site (eigencloud.xyz), EigenDA (eigenda.xyz), DeFiLlama and CoinMarketCap in a real browser at three screen sizes, and read every number from a screenshot.

What we did NOT test:

  • We did not connect a wallet and did not deposit, delegate or withdraw anything. The restaking steps below are explained from the app layout and older research, and are labelled as such.
  • The app's Token, Operator, AVS and Apps tabs showed "An error occurred" in our browser session. We could not capture them, so we do not describe their data as verified.
  • docs.eigencloud.xyz showed a Cloudflare "verify you are human" page, so we could not capture the docs.

What is EigenLayer? (Plain English)

When you stake ETH, it secures Ethereum. Restaking lets the same staked ETH (or a liquid staking token) also back other services, called AVSs (Actively Validated Services). In return you can earn extra rewards, and you also take extra risk: if the operator you chose misbehaves, part of your stake can be slashed.

In 2026 the company behind it presents the whole thing as EigenCloud. The landing page headline is "The open stack for open intelligence" and the sub-line says it builds markets for compute, inference and agentic research.

Background: who built EigenLayer and why restaking exists

Background is public knowledge and our earlier research, not re-checked on 5 Nov 2026.

EigenLayer was created by Sreeram Kannan, a professor who founded the Eigen Labs team, and went live on Ethereum in 2023. DeFiLlama lists $220M raised in total. The EIGEN token launched in 2024 with an airdrop. In 2025 the project widened from restaking to a bigger story called EigenCloud: the hero today says "The open stack for open intelligence", with products for verifiable compute and data.

What "restaking" means, step by step

  1. When you stake ETH on Ethereum, it backs the network's security. In return you earn rewards.
  2. Restaking lets that same staked ETH back other networks and services as well. These are called AVSs (actively validated services), for example a data layer or an oracle.
  3. In return you can earn extra rewards from those services.
  4. The price: if the service breaks the rules, a part of your stake can be slashed (taken away). That is why the dashboard has a "Slashing Allocation & Rewards" block with Redistributable, Slashable and Non-Slashable buckets.

The plain-English analogy

Think of ETH staking as putting down a security deposit with the landlord (Ethereum). Restaking is using the same deposit to also vouch for your tenant's other rentals, for extra pay. More income, more things that can go wrong.

Who does what

Role Job
Restaker Supplies the ETH or other assets and picks an operator
Operator Runs the software for the services (AVSs) and holds delegated stake
AVS A service that borrows security from restaked assets, for example EigenDA
EIGEN token Governance and a fault-based token mechanism; it has a role as a staking asset for some services

Many people restake through a liquid restaking token (such as ether.fi's weETH) rather than directly. That is why EigenLayer's TVL and ether.fi's are linked.

Tokenomics snapshot

CoinMarketCap shows 1.01B EIGEN circulating of 1.86B total, with an infinite max supply, a price of $0.1854, a market cap of $188.9M and an FDV of $345.09M. Infinite max supply means new tokens can be issued in the future. A purple banner on the dashboard says EIGEN emissions to the ETH quorum have ended and previously allocated emissions will be burned. DeFiLlama also shows $51.16M of EIGEN staked (27.11% of market cap).

How EigenLayer Looks on Your Device

The app is the same dashboard everywhere; only the layout changes.

Desktop (1440 x 900)

EigenLayer app dashboard on desktop
EigenLayer app dashboard on desktop.

What you see: Desktop dashboard. A purple banner says EIGEN emissions to the ETH quorum have ended and previously allocated emissions will be burned. Top nav: Dashboard, Token, Operator, AVS, Apps, plus a Connect Wallet button.

Tablet (1024 x 1366)

EigenLayer app dashboard on tablet
EigenLayer app dashboard on tablet.

What you see: Tablet keeps the full top nav and shows the "Restaked Assets" table and a "Slashing Allocation & Rewards" block below it.

Phone (430 x 932)

EigenLayer app dashboard on phone
EigenLayer app dashboard on phone.

What you see: On a phone the top nav collapses into one "Dashboard" drop-down. Cards stack vertically and the buttons become full width.

Restaked assets list on phone
Restaked assets list on phone.

What you see: Scrolled down on a phone: the Restaked Assets list shows only the Asset and Restaked columns, so the "Earnable Tokens" column from desktop is hidden.

Landing Page: EigenCloud

EigenCloud landing page
EigenCloud landing page.

What you see: Hero: "The open stack for open intelligence", with the buttons "Explore our products" and "Learn about EIGEN". Menus: Solutions, Explore, Learn.

EigenCloud landing, first scroll
EigenCloud landing, first scroll.

What you see: A large 3D block graphic while scrolling. No data on this screen, it is brand artwork.

EigenCloud mission text
EigenCloud mission text.

What you see: Mission text: "Open compute. Verifiable agents. Frontier research." It says EigenCloud is building open networks where developers, compute providers and researchers share resources and earn from the value they create.

Darkbloom product block
Darkbloom product block.

What you see: Product block "Darkbloom: The people's compute grid": put idle compute to work serving inference demand, so providers earn while developers use open models.

EigenCompute product block
EigenCompute product block.

What you see: Product block "EigenCompute: Build verifiable agents": run agent code in confidential environments with cryptographic attestation and onchain accountability.

Reading: the landing page now leads with AI compute and agents, not with restaking. Restaking is still the base layer, but the marketing has moved on.

Core Features

1. Dashboard (verified, no wallet)

Restaked assets table
Restaked assets table.

What you see: Restaked Assets table (page 1 of 6) and the "Slashing Allocation & Rewards" panel. Without a wallet it shows "No wallet connected: Connect your wallet to see slashing allocations".

What the logged-out dashboard shows:

Block What it shows (no wallet)
Total Value Restaked 0 ETH
Withdraw queue / Withdrawable 0 ETH / 0 ETH
Buttons Undelegate and Manage Balances (greyed out)
Claimable Reward Value / Last 7D APR 0 ETH, APR empty
Active balance / Upcoming rewards 0 ETH / "-"
Slashing allocation Redistributable, Slashable and Non-Slashable, all 0 ETH / 0%

The Restaked Assets table lists tokens such as FBTC, uniBTC, LBTC, WBTC, USDC, RBTC, AUSD, stBTC, ZEUS and ozETH. This shows how wide the asset list has become: it is no longer only ETH and LSTs. The amounts next to each token (for example USDC 1.90K, AUSD 11.67K, ZEUS 51.60K) have no label explaining whether they are totals for the whole protocol, so we do not use them as TVL figures.

2. Claim Rewards window

Claim Rewards modal
Claim Rewards modal.

What you see: Clicking "Claim Rewards" opens a window with a search box, a "Reward Token / Claimable" list (empty without a wallet) and a "Select Tokens" button.

You choose which reward tokens to claim, so rewards can arrive in more than one token.

3. Token, Operator, AVS and Apps tabs (not captured)

All four tabs showed "An error occurred: Something went wrong with your request" with a link to the EigenCloud support Telegram. We reproduced it on repeat loads from our connection, so we cannot show you operator lists, AVS lists or their APYs. Older research (not re-verified now) says these pages list operators with their delegated stake and the AVSs they run.

4. EigenDA

EigenDA home
EigenDA page: "Verifiable & performant data availability".

What you see: It describes EigenDA as the most performant web3 data availability solution, built for cloud-scale throughput, powering the data needs of the whole EigenCloud suite.

EigenDA performance claims
EigenDA performance claims.

What you see: Marketing claims on the page: EigenDA "already achieves 1 GB/s" throughput versus Ethereum's 32 KB/s, over 100x the capacity of other providers; you can secure your workload with ETH, EIGEN or your own token; secured with 4M ETH, with validators including Google, Coinbase, Puffer and Nethermind. "Trusted by" logos shown: Celo, MegaETH, Aevo.

EigenDA Blob Explorer
EigenDA Blob Explorer.

What you see: "EigenDA Blob Explorer" section with three sample cards: avg throughput 51.4 MiB/s and max 98.4 MiB/s, total data posted 182.48 MiB, and a latest batch of 1.2 MiB with 82 blobs.

Note that these are the project's own claims, and the explorer cards are marketing previews with a specific timestamp, not an independent measurement. The gap between "1 GB/s" in text and "98.4 MiB/s max" in the card is worth noticing.

5. Market data (CoinMarketCap and DeFiLlama)

EIGEN on CoinMarketCap
EIGEN on CoinMarketCap.

What you see: CoinMarketCap shows EigenCloud (EIGEN) rank #137 at $0.1854, market cap $188.9M, FDV $345.09M, TVL $5.8B.

CMC markets and yield
CMC markets and yield.

What you see: Markets list has 128 entries. "EigenCloud Yield" on CMC lists only exchange products: Binance Earn (Flexi) 0.30% net APY, Bitget 2.55%, Gate 0.75%. The news box says "More news updates are on the way".

DeFiLlama EigenCloud
DeFiLlama: TVL $6.211B, fees 30d $465,916.

What you see: DeFiLlama: TVL $6.211B, fees 30d $465,916, revenue 30d $0, incentives 1y $22.02M, earnings -$5.42M, market cap $188.69M, outstanding FDV $235.92M. The chart shows TVL peaking above $20B and now around $6B.

DeFiLlama income statement and competitors
DeFiLlama income statement and competitors.

What you see: Income statement by quarter and the competitor list. Also shows "Active Addresses (24h): 2" and "Transactions (24h): 2" for the tracked contract set.

Quarterly income statement as shown (Gross protocol revenue, which DeFiLlama labels as staking rewards, and incentives):

Quarter Gross protocol revenue Incentives Earnings
Q4 2026 (so far) $493.36K $486.35K -$486.35K
Q3 2026 $1.05M $1.04M -$1.04M
Q2 2026 $2.5M $2.44M -$2.44M
Q1 2026 $8.75M $8.71M -$8.71M
Q4 2025 $16.21M $16.44M -$16.44M
Q3 2025 $21.72M $22.3M -$22.3M
Q2 2025 $16.68M $16.51M -$16.51M

Gross profit is $0 in every quarter, because all the rewards pass on to the people who supply security. In plain words: the protocol itself keeps no profit, and the incentives it pays out have fallen sharply over the last seven quarters.

How to read the revenue table honestly

DeFiLlama's income statement shows revenue falling over time: $21.72M in Q3 2025, $8.75M in Q1 2026, $1.05M in Q3 2026, and $493.36K so far in Q4 2026. In every quarter incentives roughly equal revenue, so earnings are negative. The 30-day revenue is $0 and the 30-day earnings run rate is -$5.42M. TVL is $6.211B on DeFiLlama (the chart peaked above $20B, according to the capture). In short:

  • The protocol still holds a large amount of restaked value.
  • The fees it earns have shrunk sharply.
  • The token's market cap is only about 3% of TVL (0.03257 on CMC), which suggests the market assigns a low value to the protocol's future earnings.

We cannot say why from the data alone. Possible reasons include falling demand for restaking yield, competition, or a shift to the new EigenCloud products. Treat it as a risk signal, not a verdict.

EigenCloud products in plain words

Product What it claims to do Our note
EigenDA Data availability for rollups and apps; the page claims it achieves 1 GB/s Marketing claim, not independently tested
EigenCompute Run agent code in confidential environments with cryptographic attestation We did not run it
Darkbloom A "people's compute grid" where idle compute serves inference demand Early-stage idea; no data seen

The EigenDA page compares its claimed 1 GB/s with a 32 KB/s figure for Ethereum, and says you can secure workloads with ETH, EIGEN or other assets. Treat comparisons on a vendor page with caution.

Risk list

Not financial, investment or staking advice: This review is informational only. Consider your own circumstances and risks before making any staking or token decision.

  • Slashing risk if an operator or service behaves badly.
  • Withdrawal delay, since funds go to a queue.
  • Smart contract risk across EigenLayer and each AVS.
  • Declining revenue, as in the table above.
  • Token supply: infinite max supply and 0.85B tokens not yet circulating.
  • Narrative shift: the brand has moved toward AI compute and agents, so the original restaking story may matter less.

FAQ

Is EigenLayer the same as EigenCloud? The site now uses the EigenCloud name; the app and docs still reference EigenLayer.

Do I need to hold EIGEN? No. You can restake ETH or liquid staking tokens without it.

What does the Claim Rewards window do? Lets you pick reward tokens to claim. It was empty without a wallet.

What is a competitor? DeFiLlama lists Babylon ($3.283B), b14g ($258.28M), Jito Restaking ($15.81M) and others.

Is the 7.0/10 verdict a safety score? We do not assign a numerical score. This review reports what we could observe without connecting a wallet.

Where do I check the numbers? See the CoinMarketCap and DeFiLlama figures reported in this review, observed on 5 Nov 2026.

Pros and Cons

Pros: The logged-out dashboard shows restaked assets and slashing-allocation categories; EigenDA presents a clear data-availability use case; and the review identifies the limits of what was tested.

Cons: We could not connect a wallet or verify restaking flows; the Token, Operator, AVS and Apps tabs returned errors; withdrawals are queued; and restaking adds slashing and smart-contract risk.

Fees and Costs

  • Protocol fee for restaking: the app screens we could see show no fee line. DeFiLlama reports $0 in revenue, but this alone does not establish that no fees apply.
  • Gas: you pay Ethereum gas for deposit, delegate, queue withdrawal and claim. We did not measure these.
  • Withdrawal wait: the dashboard has a "Withdraw queue" and "Withdrawable" split, which confirms withdrawals are not instant. The length of the delay is from older research (about 7 days), not re-checked.
  • Operator commission: operators take a share of rewards; the amount is on the Operator pages we could not open.

Testing limit: Because we did not connect a wallet, deposit, delegate, withdraw or claim rewards, we could not verify transaction costs, operator commissions, withdrawal timing or the total cost of restaking.

How to use EigenLayer: step-by-step tutorial

I opened the live EigenCloud site and its sub-pages in a clean browser on 5 November 2026. The restaking app itself did not render in my automated browser this time (a blank page), so for the app steps I use the dashboard screenshots from my earlier capture of the same app, and I say so in each caption. I did not connect a wallet, restake or delegate, so each action that needs a wallet is marked (Not verified). Note that EigenLayer is now presented under the EigenCloud brand.

Step 1: Start on the EigenCloud homepage

First, I type eigencloud.xyz. The old eigenlayer.xyz name now points into this brand, and the page reads like a company site rather than a DeFi app.

EigenCloud homepage
The homepage.

What you see: A dark page with blue 3D blocks says "The open stack for open intelligence" and "We build markets for compute, inference and agentic research". Two buttons: "Explore our products" and "Learn about EIGEN". The menu has Solutions, Explore and Learn.

I notice that restaking is not even in the headline. The project now talks about compute and AI first. That is a big change if you read older guides.

Step 2: Scroll to the product list

Next, I press Explore our products.

EigenCloud products section starting with Darkbloom
EigenCloud products section starting with Darkbloom.

What you see: The page jumps to the products section. The first block shown is "Darkbloom: The people's compute grid", with a short text saying it puts idle compute to work serving inference demand, and an "Explore Darkbloom" link.

Step 3: Read about EigenCompute

Then I open the EigenCompute page.

EigenCompute page
The EigenCompute page.

What you see: The headline says "Add cryptographic trust to any agent or application" and the text says agents run in confidential VMs with execution backed by billions of dollars in economic security. A button says "Start building with EigenCompute".

The words "economic security" are the link back to restaking. This product is for developers, not for someone who just wants yield.

Step 4: Read about the EIGEN token

After that, I open the EIGEN page.

EIGEN token page
EIGEN token page.

What you see: The EIGEN page. A large blue block graphic sits behind the heading "EIGEN: The token for the Open …" (the line continues below the first screen).

I would read the full page before I buy the token. The page gives the project's own description, not independent analysis.

Step 5: Look at Darkbloom

Now I open Darkbloom from the products list.

Darkbloom site
The Darkbloom site.

What you see: A photo of a man holding a robotic device is covered by the text "AI, powered by your Macs." A line says "For the trailblazers pushing the frontier" and a "Join the grid" link sits in the top right.

This is a separate product from restaking. It is aimed at people who want to rent out spare computer power.

Step 6: Look at EigenDA

Next, I open the EigenDA page.

EigenDA page
The EigenDA page with the heading "Verifiable & performant data availability".

What you see: The text calls it the most performant web3 data availability solution, and a button says "Start building with EigenDA".

Step 7: Open the restaking app (earlier capture)

To restake, I go to the app from the official EigenCloud site and not from a search ad.

EigenLayer dashboard on desktop
EigenLayer dashboard on desktop.

What you see: The dashboard from my earlier capture. A purple banner says EIGEN emissions to the ETH quorum have ended and previously allocated emissions will be burned. The top nav has Dashboard, Token, Operator, AVS and Apps, and a Connect Wallet button.

Step 8: Check the restaked assets table (earlier capture)

Then I scroll down on the dashboard.

Restaked assets table
Restaked assets table.

What you see: The Restaked Assets table (page 1 of 6) and the "Slashing Allocation & Rewards" panel. Without a wallet it shows "No wallet connected". Total Value Restaked, Redistributable, Slashable and Non-Slashable are all 0 ETH.

What do the slashing boxes mean? Redistributable, Slashable and Non-Slashable show how much of your stake can be penalized if an operator or service misbehaves.

Step 9: Open the Claim Rewards window (earlier capture)

Finally, I press Claim Rewards.

Claim Rewards window
Claim Rewards window.

What you see: A "Claim Rewards" window over the dashboard, with a search box, a Reward Token / Claimable list and a purple "Select Tokens" button. The restaked assets table stays visible behind it.

Step 10: Connect, choose an operator and delegate (not captured)

  1. Press Connect Wallet and approve the connection only on the real domain. (Not verified)
  2. Open the Operator tab and compare operators: which services they run and their track record.
  3. Pick one and delegate. (Not verified)

Which option should I pick? Choose an operator by its track record and the services it runs, not by the biggest number. Delegating adds the risk that the operator or a service you opted into gets penalized.

Referral Program

We found no referral program on the pages we could open.

Security and Risks

Verified on screen: CoinMarketCap shows a CertiK rating of 4.4, and DeFiLlama shows "Audits: Yes".

From older research (not re-checked on 5 Nov):

  • Slashing went live on 17 April 2026. If your operator misbehaves, your delegated stake can be burned.
  • Operator risk: you inherit the mistakes of the operator you pick.
  • Smart contract risk: core contracts, each AVS and any LRT you use.
  • LRT depeg risk if you borrow against a liquid restaking token.
  • EIGEN has no max supply, so emissions can dilute holders. The banner now says emissions to the ETH quorum have ended, which is a change worth watching.

Observed risk signals: the app's four main tabs failed to load for us; DeFiLlama shows protocol earnings negative every quarter; TVL is far below its peak.

Competitors

DeFiLlama's own list of competitors for EigenCloud (TVL as displayed):

Competitor TVL shown
Babylon Protocol $3.283B
OpenGDP Shared Security $5.94M
b14g $258.28M
Allstake $609,134
Pell Network $228,121
Jito Restaking $15.81M
Solayer Restaking $9.62M
Valantis stHYPE Restaking $8.63M
Parasail $1.49M
Kernel $1.28M

EigenCloud's $6.2B TVL is roughly double Babylon's $3.283B and far above the rest. The older "93.9% market share" figure from our earlier article was not re-checked and is not repeated here.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Clean dashboard with a clear split between restaked, withdrawable, claimable and slashing allocation.
  • Wide asset support, including BTC wrappers and stablecoins.
  • Works on tablet and phone with a sensible mobile layout.
  • EigenDA is a real product with named rollup users on its page.
  • Open about changes, such as the banner on ended emissions.

Cons

  • The Token, Operator, AVS and Apps tabs did not load for us.
  • Docs were behind a bot check.
  • Protocol earnings are negative every quarter on DeFiLlama and incentives are shrinking.
  • Marketing numbers (1 GB/s) are not independently shown.
  • Restaking adds slashing risk on top of normal staking.

Verdict: 7.0 / 10

EigenLayer remains the largest name in restaking and its dashboard is well designed. But in our session half of the app did not open, the numbers on DeFiLlama show the protocol relying on incentives, and the story has shifted to AI and compute. For large, careful ETH holders it is still worth researching. For small holders or anyone who dislikes slashing risk, plain staking is simpler.

This score reflects only what we saw on 5 Nov 2026 without a wallet.
