MARA’s latest quarterly filing showed a much weaker period for the bitcoin miner, with softer mining economics and a smaller treasury position weighing on the quarter.
MARA’s Q2 Results Show a Sharp Revenue Drop and $611.3 Million Loss
In a shareholder letter and Form 10-Q filed on August 6, 2026, MARA said $174.9 million of revenue for Q2 2026, down 27% from $238.5 million in Q2 2025.
MARA also reported a ($611.3 million) net income loss for Q2 2026, versus $808.2 million of net income in Q2 2025, underscoring how far the quarter moved away from the prior year’s earnings base.
Because those figures came from MARA’s own shareholder letter and its SEC-filed Form 10-Q, the earnings miss is anchored in issuer and regulatory disclosures rather than third-party estimates. For related coverage, see Fintech Revolution Summit –Singapore 2026.
A Weaker Bitcoin Mining Price Was the Main Driver of the Revenue Slide
MARA’s 10-Q said a 28% drop in the average price of bitcoin mined accounted for about $65.9 million of the revenue decline, making weaker realized mining economics the clearest reason sales fell even before broader balance-sheet effects are considered.
That pressure came even as MARA’s energized hashrate rose 22% year over year to 70.3 EH/s in Q2 2026, a contrast that shows production capacity improved while unit pricing deteriorated.
Operating output stayed active as well: MARA said it mined 2,422 BTC in Q2 2026 and sold 2,213 BTC at an average price of $73,078, reinforcing that the quarter’s weaker result reflected pricing pressure more than a collapse in mining activity.
MARA’s Bitcoin Holdings Also Fell, Adding Balance-Sheet Pressure
MARA’s bitcoin holdings decreased 29% to 35,577 BTC as of June 30, 2026, which aligns with prior reporting on MARA’s year-over-year decline in Bitcoin holdings to 35,577 BTC in Q2 2026.
The shareholder letter also said 9,270 BTC of that treasury was already loaned or pledged as collateral by June 30, 2026, which means the decline in holdings was paired with a meaningful share of the remaining bitcoin being encumbered.
With only 35,577 BTC on hand and 9,270 BTC already tied to loans or collateral, MARA entered the second half with less unencumbered bitcoin than its 70.3 EH/s operating scale might suggest, adding context to recent treasury activity such as deposits to NYDIG and transfers to Two Prime.
